Doug Magnuson
Mr. Magnuson has served for 35 years in the battery industry. He has experience in every major chemistry including Lead-Acid, NiCd, NiZn, NiMH, Zn-Air, Alkaline, LiPrimary, and Lithium Ion. His specialty is R&D management and has served as technical director for successful start-ups in NiMH and Lithium Ion. Along the way he has developed considerable expertise in small round and prismatic cell design and has developed and used electrochemical models to predict performance.

Doug has used Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments to reduce
Manufacturing cost and improve quality of conformance to accomplish long term economic success. Doug has brought together electronics and battery experts to produce effective charger/battery systems.

Professional Highlights
Exide Technologies                                                                                2009 - 2013 Battery developments were made that could produce 1 Kw/Kg LAB, for vehicles that use power assist. Hybrid batteries and Ultra-capacitors were investigated for use in micro-hybrid battery vehicle systems. Doug directed development of a low cost, High Frequency charging system. Wireless data acquisition/battery management systems were developed under his direction.

3M Company                                                                                                   2007-2009
Doug managed 3M’s lithium battery materials laboratory which included MNC materials, proprietary salts, unique shuttle materials, and metal alloys which can store large amounts of lithium. A charger, that took advantage of the shuttle's ability to accomplish cell balancing without individual string control, was developed under his direction.

Gold Peak Batteries                                                                                              1997-2006
Mr. Magnuson supplied the technical direction to manufacture 20 million 18650 cells per year, from scratch,  including formulations and mixing,  coating, and calendaring processes.

Duracell                                                                                                    1987-1996
Helped start-up the Li-Ion 18650 assembly for a pilot line. Managed the start-up of electrode coating processes for a Lithium Primary factory. Designed the “extra actives” alkaline cell.

Ovonic Battery Company                                                                                       1982-1987
Provided technical direction for the start-up of Ovonic Battery Company's AB2 Nickel-Metal Hydride cells.
